 Children’s Parties

I am always asked what I do at a child’s party to keep them entertained.
Let me explain what I do for a 5th or 6th Birthday party. Generally there are around 30 children with a small bias towards girls. In some classes it can be opposite, but generally there are more girls at a party. There is no point just playing pop music. Kids don’t know many songs and will just run riot. It is essential that the party is led from the front i.e. me the dj. If it appears that the children are a little nervous or shy of me; after all I am a stranger, I will bring them to the front and introduce myself. To help the initial fears I ask parents to help and we make a circle. We learn our left and right hands and check if we have brought our party heads. This leads to the Hokey Kokey and with the parents help a short attempt at musical bumps. By verse 3 the children usually are a lot more confident so parents can take a back seat and let me entertain. While we are in a circle it seems a good time to do pass the parcel, although not all parties require this traditional game. An alternative start depending on the confidence of the children so usually used with 6 year olds and above is :- After introducing myself and finding out the their names, ask the children if boys are better than girls or girls are better than boys. To solve the question we line the girls up on one side and the boys on the other. As boys think they cannot dance or it isn’t cool I suggest that “If the boys win, we will play Disco Football”. This gets a cheer as generally boys like football. “But if the girls win we will do Disco dancing wining prizes and Kissing the boys” Obviously this is a wind up and we do not do any kissing, but gets the reaction of we are not letting the other side win! The music is the Can-Can and each team can win points. I will not spoil what I now do to wind them up here, but suffice to say parents like that they are all equal to each other. There are other things I do to keep the children busy and I suggest we have food after an hour. The limbo, Conga with tunnels provided by parents arms, a party game based on my pet dragon with crazy frogs and a dragon’s den (Has to be seen to see the fun), are all part of the last hour. Not forgetting the birthday cake. I like parents to join in so often I finish with Y.M.C.A. The birthday boy or girl then choose the best boy, girl and most importantly parent to give the last prizes to. With younger parties ; well any age really I offer basic balloon modelling which the kids love, and can offer face painting via my daughter Nikki Noo Noo or from a number of professional face painters I know in the area. Fees are as follows based on a 2 hr. party:- Afternoon and after school Parties :- Disco and Party Games from ................... £125 Add basic balloons to above - from ......... £25 (Morning parties from ............................. £100) Face Painting Only from ............................ £80 Disco, Party Games + Face Painting (depending on face painter availability) .. £200 Balloon Modelling Only - per hr. ................. £45 Better quality balloon modelling per hr. .... £60 A transport charge is made for parties outside a 15 mile radius of Durham
